SEYMOUR

Seymour, Tennessee is an unincorporated community which spans the boundary between Sevier and Blount counties. It is a 10 minute drive to the City of Knoxville and is included in the Knoxville, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area. Though ideally situated on the outskirts of a big city atmosphere, Seymour uniquely offers its residents a majestic, scenic countryside. The town is located within 20 minutes of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Seymour area is one of the fastest growing areas in Tennessee. Seymour has become appealing to many young professionals working in the Knoxville area. It is a fantastic place to raise a family with all of its schools academically ranking above the National Mean Percentile. EDUCATION

The immediate Seymour area has a primary, middle, an intermediate and a high school. A new K-8 school was just constructed in 2006, to become the fifth school in the area.The Seymour High School, serving grades 9-12 has 1,105 students who have demonstrated academic achievement similar to the rest of the schools in Sevier County and somewhat higher achievement than the average in Tennessee. All academic areas show a high % proficiency and % advanced and have met all federal benchmarks for progress.
The Seymour Middle School, serving grades 6-8 has 890 students demonstrating similar academic achievement. All academic areas show a high % proficiency and % advanced and have met all federal benchmarks for progress.
The Seymour Intermediate School, serving grades 3-5 has 800 students. Academic achievement is slightly superior to both County and State averages with most academic areas showing a high % proficiency and % advanced and meeting all federal benchmarks for progress. The Seymour Primary School, serving grades K-2 has 829 students. Most academic areas show a high % proficiency and % advanced and have met all federal benchmarks for progress. All ratings of academic achievement in all Seymour schools are above the National mean percentile. All Seymour schools are in good standing, with superior attendance, very low dropout cohort, limited number of suspensions and almost no expulsions. Boyd's Creek Elementary is the newest school in the county housing grades K-8. The school was built to assist the evergrowing population of the Seymour Community. The University of Tennessee Knoxville is only a short drive away and holds a time-honored place as the state's premier public university. Among the first public institutions of higher learning in the nation, UT Knoxville offers a broad array of majors and programs, internships and hands-on research, opportunities to internationalize your education, options for leadership and campus involvement, and a diverse student body.



NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

Blount Mansion is located in the Seymour area in Knox County. It is visited by many history buffs annually.
Statement of Significance (as of designation - January 12, 1965): From 1792 until his death, this was the impressive structure was the residence of William Blount (1749-1800), who had already represented North Carolina in the Continental Congress (1782-83, 1786-87), and signed the U.S. Constitution when he moved west to present-day Tennessee in 1790. While Governor of the Southwest Territory, Blount was instrumental in Tennessee's admission to the Union and was one of her first U.S. Senators.
